The French language is honouring the global pop icon Beyoncé as her name is added to the Le Petit Larousse Illustré dictionary revised edition.
The Grammy winner’s name—in the wordbook that was first published in 1905—doubled down on her Louisiana Creole heritage.
The meaning reads, “American singer of R&B and pop,” after it was added as a proper noun as multiple outlets reported.
Explaining the new additions in the dictionary, the head at Larousse, Carine Girac-Marinier said many of the words “reflect concerns, developments or strong movements this year.”
She further noted that people must match the “values of the Petit Larousse — excellence and promotion of French culture.”
The latest feather in the Beyoncé’s cap did not come as a surprise because of the 42-year-old strong ties with French culture, and fashion.
Not to mention, some parts of her song Partition in 2013 were in French. And her holiday destinies were often in Paris and Cannes with the family.
